What Installers Need to Know and How MYNET Supports You

The fire safety industry has seen an important update with the release of the BS5839-1:2025 standards, recently announced by the Fire Industry Association (FIA). These new standards introduce changes designed to improve fire alarm system compliance and better protect both people and property.

As your dedicated monitoring partner, MYNET is fully aligned with these changes and ready to support installers in adapting to the new requirements.

What’s New in BS5839-1:2025

One of the most significant updates is the introduction of two distinct installation categories for fire alarm systems:

  • L Category - Life Protection, Designed to protect building occupants, these installations now require alarms to be delivered within the DP4 performance standard.

  • P Category - Property Protection, Designed to protect buildings and assets, offering flexibility while maintaining strong compliance standards.

This change ensures that systems are designed, installed, and monitored in a way that reflects the different priorities of life safety and property safety.

What This Means for Installers in The UK

For installation partners, the update affects both system selection and monitoring requirements:

  • Systems designed for L category installations must comply with DP4, ensuring higher performance and resilience.

  • P category installations remain compatible with existing products and solutions but still require careful planning to meet the updated standard.

At MYNET, we have already reviewed, tested and adapted our processes to ensure full compatibility with solutions that meet these new standards.
